The final step of the Occu-Med service is our recommendation concerning the applicant’s or employee’s ability to safely perform the essential duties of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. EXAMQA provides the answer.
In the first part of the EXAMQA process, the medical examination is reviewed for timeliness, accuracy, thoroughness of information, and the correctness of medical testing. If one of our intake specialists identifies any deficiency, he or she will request missing or corrected information before any further steps are taken.
Once the exam is deemed complete, it is then forwarded to medical staff for review. Using Occu-Med’s Compendium of Medical Guidelines, medical conditions or physical limitations documented by the examination are compared to the essential physical demands of the job, and a recommendation whether or not to place the applicant (or return the employee to work) is made. This recommendation is forwarded to the client on the same day, via email or fax, by means of a written report.
It should be noted that if an applicant may only be placed with accommodations, Occu-Med will provide the client with an Employment Agreement detailing the specific accommodations required for placement. If the decision regarding placement must be delayed until certain medical information can be further explored, Occu-Med will correspond directly with the applicant to obtain the medical information necessary to make a recommendation regarding placement. To protect the employer from receiving confidential medical information inappropriately, the client will simply be notified that further medical inquiry has been initiated.
And, finally, if the applicant or employee is not physically or medically capable of safely performing the essential job functions, even with accommodations, Occu-Med will prepare the necessary report in a manner that medically and legally supports the decision. Occu-Med will then assist the client in assessing the feasibility and appropriateness of Reasonable Accommodation for each medical disqualification.
