The foundation of Occu-Med’s pre-placement and fitness-for-duty medical evaluation programs is a thorough understanding of the job into which an applicant is to be placed or an employee is to be returned. Therefore, the first step to implement our program is the development of a comprehensive Job Profile that documents the physical and environmental demands of each of the job classes to be included in any of our medical evaluation programs. Using a statistically valid sample of workers in the selected job classes, we conduct on-site structured group interviews to determine the essential tasks of the jobs being analyzed. The Job Profile also describes working conditions and environmental exposures encountered on the job. The physical abilities and environmental factors provide the foundation for the next two steps of our service: the medical examination and the employee / job compatibility determination. The Job Profile provides the foundation: a) to determine which medical conditions would be inappropriate to place into the job and to permit the establishment of job-related and cost-effective medical examinations; and b) to use in the worker / job compatibility match performed following each medical examination.
